- I am currently disputing charges with them over a 3.1 ROM with Workbench
- software that I purchased through them. (Not the kit, just the ROM and
- software they advertise(d))
-
- The disks are clearly Pirated and I believe the EPROM is as well.
- Its a windowed EPROM with a sticker on it rather than the typical
- ROM with the imprinted text on the chip. It dawned on me after I
- had purchased it that the company wouldn't break up an 'official'
- kit to sell the ROM seperately, which is another reason to suspect
- it being pirated.
-
- I spoke with Peter Kittel about it and he seemed to verify that the
- disks are pirated (I know this is true), and that while he didn't
- say they were, we indicated that there was only a 'chance' that they
- were legitimate, in that they don't normally use windowed EPROMs, and
- that while it was 'possible', I got the impression that he didn't think
- it was likely.
-
- Also, I heard from another Amiga Dealer that Expert Services had sent
- around a notice to dealers and suppliers to STOP selling the ROM
- seperately. Now, could it be that this is due to them trying to STOP
- pirating of the ROM by which they get no money out of it. I think so!
-
- I haven't checked Paxtrons more recent adds, but I bet they aren't
- advertising the ROM seperate any longer.
-
- In any case, I wanted to help Village Tronic and future OS development
- when I bought the (EP)ROM, and damned if I will let them get away with
- selling me pirated goods that nobody but them benefit from it.
-
- When I called them with my concerns, the 'gentleman' I spoke with was rude and
- belittled me as soon as I mentioned the problem. He gave me plenty of
- reasons why I shouldn't be concerned, but none of them dismissed the 'piracy'
- claim, so it seems that while he can 'justify' selling what I believe to be
- pirated stuff, he sure can't give solid evidence that they are not pirated.
-
- As they say, "Your milage may vary!"

- PS. And from talking with people about this issue, it seems that Paxtron
- isn't the only culprit. Sad that Amiga Dealers and Suppliers want
- to stab the back of the companies that are primarily doing Amiga R&D
- by undercutting them on ROM sales and profits.
